Build & Finish

Our Approach

We batch-build our guitars, usually four at a time.  While this means our production rate is modest, it also means each and every guitar receives our undivided care and attention during its making.  In this way we can exercise the highest level of quality control to make every guitar a special guitar.

All building is carried out using traditional hand tools or with small workshop machines, using time-honoured craft methods, and working to very fine tolerances.  We do not use computer-aided building techniques.

We use preferred suppliers for all our materials and components.  We don't mess around with gadgetry or novelty for novelty's sake.  Instead we establish what works for our guitars, and then we hone it as close to perfection as we can.

For more information and pictures showing our building process see our gallery page.

This short animation shows the construction stages our necks pass through.  You can also see more pictures of the various stages of neck build in our gallery.
This even shorter animation shows the shaping stages that our Type 1 guitar bodies pass through - this is a mahogany body, but the process is exactly the same for all woods.  You can see pictures of our Type 2 bodies being made in our gallery.
Our guitars are finished in traditional nitrocellulose lacquer.  Our full gloss finish, illustrated left, is only available to order. Our standard 'workhorse' finish provides a more affordable option.  Click the picture to find out more.
